The concept of life has always been fascinating and seemingly unfathomable. What it is, what is its source, and what is the purpose of existence? Is there life beyond the walls of the globe? Life could be said to be a characteristic that distinguishes physical entities that have biological processes, such as signaling, reproduction, and self-sustaining processes, from those that do not, either because they are dead or inanimate.
As a being and a piece of life contained in a defined boundary (the body), in other to display this characteristic and experience the phenomena of this world and planets, we do so through our senses. Through one's senses memory is built, and in turn it helps to form one's thoughts. Thought is the language of the mind; they are vibrations that we broadcast into the energy field, which only resonates with elements that are in harmony with it. By this process we create from the nonphysical experience of life into the physical reality. If thought creates our experience, what are we imagining, and what thoughts do we allow to take up real estate in our minds? And are we mindful of these tenants?
My new body of work reimagines states of inner conversations as they shape the course of our personal life, when viewed as a culmination of personal choices, entertained consciously or unconsciously. Those choices being influenced by factors like; culture, childhood upbringing, faith, self-awareness, character traits, education that we apply in our everyday life which forms the state of an individual's life. Some of these works evoke the notion of another dimension to our existence. The use of a window or an opening on the chest of the figures reveals an access point to another dimension, a nonphysical one within man, the awareness of the presence of a presence within. Using the medium of; paint, charcoal, cardboard, sponge rubber and glue on canvas, and on cardboard, in a blend of figurative and abstract.
